Pensoft Heads to Tours, France for the XIII European Congress of Entomology 2026

11 May 2026

The XIII European Congress of Entomology (ECE 2026) is set to be held in Tours, France, from June 29 to July 3, 2026. This international gathering is organised by the French Entomological Society and the Praesidium for European Entomology, continuing a long tradition of scientific excellence within the entomological community.

The congress is designed to explore the important role of insects in addressing modern ecological and sociological issues. Discussions will be centered on the dual nature of insect life, where species are recognised both as allies in providing ecosystem services like pollination and nutrient cycling, and as significant challenges when acting as pests or disease vectors. The transition toward a sustainable future through nature-based solutions and bio-based innovations will be a primary focus of the five-day event.

A diverse schedule consisting of plenary lectures, symposia, and poster sessions will be offered at the Le Vinci Congress Centre. The programme is intended to stimulate interdisciplinary dialogue across various scales, ranging from molecular science to global policy and biodiversity conservation.

Pensoft Publishers is recognised as an active project consortium partner tasked with the leadership of communication and dissemination activities for several key initiatives:

EUFAWREADY aims to enhance the readiness of European agricultural stakeholders for potential Fall Armyworm outbreaks by providing tools for early detection and sustainable management to minimise economic impact and limit synthetic pesticide use.

AGRI4POL's goal is to transform agriculture from a pressure on pollinators into a positive force for their restoration and management by using an interdisciplinary approach to foster sustainable, pollinator-friendly farming that supports ecosystems and food security.

VALOR utilises a multi-actor systems approach across seven focal regions to co-develop decision support tools and forecast how stakeholders can adapt to the economic, environmental, and societal impacts of pollinator shifts.

Carla Stoyanova, Maria Kolesnikova and Nikolay Mehandzhiyski will represent the publisher at its own booth, with Stoyanova and Kolesnikova additionally leading workshops on the following:

Open Science and Open Access: From Publication Models to Scholarly Communication - This workshop will examine how evolving open-access publishing models and multifaceted communication approaches help researchers enhance the visibility, discoverability and impact of their work within the changing open science landscape.

Tiny Creatures, Lasting impact: Science Communication for Entomology - This workshop will explore how communication teams and researchers can collaborate to translate complex entomological research into tailored messages for diverse audiences, featuring a 30-minute interactive exercise.

The event will be hosted in the historic city of Tours, located in the heart of the Loire Valley. Participants will be invited to engage in professional networking within a setting renowned for its architectural history and local gastronomy.
